As a newly-founded non-profit organization, Kimokeo Foundation is preparing our wa‘a for our journey and is currently setting the groundwork for the programs which we will be concentrating on for years to come. This includes building our donor and supporter bases, creating partnerships and relationships with people who can help us accomplish our program goals and branding our organization.
Concurrently, we are also working on our first major program which is driven by Kimokeo’s pure belief that in order for our Hawaiian culture to thrive and live on in perpetuity, the heart of our culture, the Hawaiian language, must be preserved and he knows that the way to preserve it is through our keiki (children). Therefore, we are partnering with the Hawaiian Immersion Preschool, Pūnana Leo o Maui and their non-profit organization, Nā Leo Pūlama o Maui, to assist them in fulfilling their dream of building a new preschool.
Pūnana Leo o Maui is situated in Wailuku, Maui. The beauty of this Hawaiian immersion school is that its preschoolers are taught throughout the entire day using only the Hawaiian language. The school is currently able to enlist 30 preschoolers annually. However, with 60 to 90 applicants each year, it has been evident for many years, that a larger preschool is necessary to meet the demand of Maui’s community. Pūnana Leo o Maui has already begun the initial stages of creating a new school which will enable them to enroll upwards of 60 to 70 students annually. Kimokeo Foundation is currently working with the school and its non-profit to help them raise the funds to get their school built.
With your generous donation, it will help our wa‘a move forward to our first island stop to help build a preschool for Pūanan Leo o Maui in which we will be raising a new generation of Native Hawaiian speakers.
